LAYOUT is one of the most important parts of a workflow. This is where you decide on the fonts, graphics, images and trapping etc. This is also where you can follow protocols to reduce the imaging of the file or the size of the PDFs. For example, if you have generated a vector graphic in Illustrator or Freehand, before saving the eps, it is always best to outline any fonts so that when you save postscript you won’t get any font exclusions. Also its best to delete any stray points that maybe included in the eps. These sometimes show up as a font character when ripped. Saving images correctly, or changing supplied images is just as important. You can leave images as RGB so that when they are ripped by the Reprograhics house or Printer, they will convert them ‘on the fly’ in their workflow. However, the conversion tables are not as good as Photoshops RGB>CMYK, where the end result are far better.
