CTP (computer-to-plate) is the latest outputing device in the industry, and basically means that where you once had to go to a reprographics house to have your files run to film before being manually plated, now you can send your files straight to the printers missing out the middle man, saving yourselves both time and money. There are very few drawbacks with CTP, you may find that you may have to change your scanning specifications in the highlights and shadows of your scan, because the plate is now first generation where as before it was second to the film output. This in turn means that you will hold more dots on the plate where previously they may have dropped out. You also don’t often see a proof of the plates compared to when you had film output you could have matchprints made.
